On the main egroup,http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ShadowLore/ we have been discussing our roots and where our families came from. I'm curious about something, do you think its possible that our nationality might have something to do with the type of Kin we are?
For example; I've hear the theory that all those who have native american ancestry are shapeshifters or therians. Do you feel that there is even a hint of truth in this theory or do you have one of your own?

Unless there's an animal hiding somewhere in me, nope. Part Miami and Blackfoot. Straight pixie. If I got it from any of my ancestors, it'd prolly be the Irish or German in me. *shrugs*

I think it some ways it does play a part. I mean just because I'm part Irish this doesn't mean that I'm automatically sidhe. I am an elf, and beyond Ireland, my other heritages, like German, French and even Hungarian sides of me have stories about fey type folk.
If I were to pin point the hereditary trait to one, I would have to say Irish and German side. But it goes farther back than just Ireland.
I refer to the Germanic and Gaulic tribes. These are where we need to look into. When I refer to Ireland for my fey heritage, it is more because of the gaulic tribes that settled ther more so than Ireland itself.
those tribes are the ones who would have intermarried with any thing other than human more so than your contemporary Irish.
German and Scandinavians should look into the the Germanic Tribes that settled those parts more so than say Denmark itself.
James found some interesting migration patterns in his family history, which may provide a historical link to him being a troll.
So yes and no, our ancestry plays a huge part in some of us kinships, but it's not the modern day world that we should be looking into, but the pre-historic tribes that ghathered in that place.

it looks as if on the main board I have flip flopped my position on the family tree. Although re-reading what I wrote a while back still makes sense. It's not so much what our heritage is than what our ancestry is. Native Americans have fairies; the Greeks have therians. So it would make sense to look up the migrtation of your ancestors.

i am german french I have always related to the vampire cause I feed off energy and such.. but fae who have had contact with me say they feel a bond one was even sidhe..I love nature and animals.. so perhaps there are sidhe chareteristics in me as we..
I know vampires originated in sumeria and then as well as germany.. my french irish roots might explain the closness sidhe feel towards me perhaps.. it poses a interesting question..I think kin did originate in certian areas in the world and then migrated elsewhere..

I consider my Scottish ancestry to be where the little bit of Fae I am comes from. I'm part Brownie. In any social gathering you'll find me in the kitchen helping or cleaning up! The draconic has nothing whatsoever to do with my genealogical heritage as the dragon identifies with the southern Yucatan Peninsula and NONE of my ancestors are from that area. the vampiric "might" be hereditary as I am Hungarian and there is a family story that one grandmother was actually a Romani Gypsy. But virtually every culture in the world has some kind of a vampire story so that isn't necessarily so.
