...what happened to Shadowlore? A large number of people are familiar with the name and the organization, so why isn't it being used? Did it succomb to some political disaster I've been unaware of? There aren't really any other active organizations filling this exact niche, to the best of my knowledge. Why is it languishing? Lack of advertising?

I'm not sure what you mean byu it not being used?? Our group forum has an average post of messages and this year will be our biggest gathering yet!
If you are referring to themessage board here, it's probbaly because a lot of people probably forget we have one.
Advertising would be one to spread the word of SL, but I would suggest for all those who are interested in keeping SL alive: Make posts on this board, local branch boards and the main group Get people involved; host an on-line chat or a local meet up via on-line orbetter yet, in person. You don't need tobe a branch head to start one of those, and if you are a branch head, you should be trying to gather people together. Get out there and make mention of SL. On any of the other groups I'm on, anytime the mention of kin is made I promote SL. The mention of kin could be a question regarding a shape shift in the astra realm, psi-vamps is a big one people talk about a lot, or anything that can be kin related. Get involved with web rings. Contact the owner of the ring and put them in touch with Grim. Get the link out there, get the word out there and the easiest thing of all: print up some flyers or SL cards and drop them off in various spots as you are walking to the store, taking the bus, etc. I usually bring some with on road trips and everytime I stop for gas or food I drop somethign SL related. If you can't make the flyers or don't have access to a printer or copy store, ask someone on the group. Acacia was wonderful enough to sendme some business cards in the mail that she printed when my puter wasn't able to make them. Myself, and I'm sure others would be willing to print up some flyers and send them out at no cost to those interested in promoting SL.
Ok that's my 2 cents...

Hm, so the real activity is in the branches, then? I noted that the main site also doesn't have much going on, for example that vamp/donor list is empty.

Elix is right... there is alot more activity in the main SL Yahoo! Group than here on these boards. I think part of that is because for some reason, people prefer the group to the boards. Personally, I'm the opposite, I like boards because of the catagory groups, but to each their own.
Another issue that I've found is sometimes even SL members are shy. They are afraid of being looked down upon because of their opinions and beliefs. Even though SL's biggest idea is not to do that, so many kin have put up so many "brick walls" when it comes to talking about kin that they are scared to "come out", even among their own. I know that I have found that to be the case in the OK/TX SL group. It's hard to bring them out on the boards, much less in person - though I still continue to try for both.
I look forward to both more activity here and on the groups. It's just drawing people out of their shell that will get it.

Here Here!! I know the vamp/donor database is pretty much empty, but think it's a combination of internet fear and the fact that it isnot really user friendly. No offense Grim But honestly, you need to e-mail the web master to get your name up there, and the format seems to be missing something. It's not as accessable.

A quick idea to promote SL would be to use myspace bulletins. maybe a couple different versions sent through the right people. they seem to move fast though the boards and those who notice will probably check out the site, perhaps even join.
just a thought

I have posted ShadowLore on my MySpace page and have put a database on ShadowLore main group for everyone to add their MySpace information. The response I got from most on the board is that they don't use MySpace. We do have a ShadowLore MySpace page too: groups.myspace.com/ShadowloreIt's just not very active.

*a year & a half later*...
I'm REALLY sad & dissapointed that this board isn't a hive of activity, I was SO excited to find this place. It might be another year & a bit before anyone reads this bit at the rate it's going. Grrrr...
Truely frustrating, no-one to discuss this stuff with & no-one to learn from.

Don't know if it matters or not, but if you want a discussion, I'm more than willing to post. You ask the questions and I will see if I can answer them.
