It gripes me when from a recent move people are telling me that you just have to get used to the "Big City" where I live is certainly not a big city, maybe in some apocalyptic fantasy hell world is (where I live now) a big city. Because though circumstances that I lived in a smaller town for 7 or 8 years, people assume I am a small town person and can't survive in any kind of a metropolis, I was born and raised and lived for over 30 years in major cities, in LA and San Diego, and have spent a good deal of time in Salt Lake City , New York and New Orleans. So It just rankles me when people tell me things happen just because I don't know how it is in a "Big City"

Really, urban and rural areas are not very different. It's the culture shock of moving from one region of the country to another that has the biggest effect. But, people seem to like simple explanations for everything and that's their own shortcoming.
Just give them a polite smile and tell them to shove it six ways to Sunday, and if they don't quite understand something that blunt, try beating your chest and repeating it in monosyllabic grunts.
