I am searching for a sturdy piece of Hawthorn approximately 3 to 4 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length. I wish to make a staff.

Hawthorne is tough to find. I wish I could help, this lifetime I have lost most of my knowledge about everything.

Hawthorn is easy to find, if you live in the right State (such as Michigan), but finding a straight piece of that length is not so easy...you'd probably need to take it from the trunk of the tree. Hawthorns are small trees, and tend to have twisted branches and a sprawling habit. www31.brinkster.com/yewtree/images/hawthorn.jpg[/img]#nosmileys#nosmileys

It might be easy to find in some states but here in Virginia the only Hawthorne to be found are small shrubs that people plant in their yards. So I am still looking. I did find dogwood that had a vine growing up it and had scored the spiral in its wood. I am planning to make a walking stick and a staff from those. But I still want the Hawthorne.
