Ok, so we all know Hitler was a monster and those that are sympathizers to his cause should be shot... I believe that's the general concensus right??
Ok, well I watched Down Fall the other night... and well, how do I put this... I felt bad for him.
Let me clarify... you have to remove the evil of Hitler and watch this movie strickly from a military point of view or as a leader of people.
All the officers he had under his command, well at least the higher ups, like Goering and Himmler, they ALL betrayed him during the last months of the war.
I mean, it's good that they did, because it brought his downfall... hence the name of the movie, but it really sucked, and you could kind of see, this demon of a man, actually get crushed when he finally finds out.
The officers were afraid to tell Hitler where the Russians were because they thought that Hitler would have had them shot. But in all reality, he wanted them to be honest with him as he was with them.
He was basing all of his attacks off of false information that was given to him by his subordinates... hmm sounds familiar eh... but we won't go there.
Then when the Russians were within 6 miles of Berlin, they said "oh by the way!!!"
I mean, imagine if eveyone around you, who pledge themselves to you, who were supposedly loyal to you and your country, suddenly betrayed you!
The best Hitler had to hope for was that the Americans would come before the Russians so his people could surrender to us.
There was one part where he even had to kill his own dog Blondi, whom he loved dearly. I actually cried during that part.
Anyway, it was a good movie and I feel kind of bad for sympathizing with him, but really it kind of sucked for him.
Did anyone else see this movie?? It has just recently been released into the American market a few weeks. I know you could get it on Amazon. It was said it was to controversal to show in the states and I'm wondering if it's because it humanized a monster?
