I've heard of two methods of straighening hair. One being straightening irons, but those can cause heat damage. The second method would be chemical relaxers which can cause the hair to become noodly and weak.
Are there any other ways to straighten my hair without damaging it even more than it already is?

you can always wash and condition your hair, not wash all the conditioner completely out, and then blow dry your hair while combing it straight. It's not perfect, but it works fine for one night out on the town. Just make sure you rinse your hair again when you get home. or you'll get flakes the next day.

Tresseme has a product used specifically for things like hair dryers and hot irons. Here's a couple things... as above, after shampooing your hair, towel dry it and then place just a little conditionar in your hand and run it through your hair. Don't use a lot!! Blow drying it will work, but your hair will probably flip at the ends unless you use an air brush and those are expensive. Or purchase a heat protective shampoo and conditionar, along with styling products. Like I said I have a hair spray at home specifically designed to protect against heat damage. After washing and conditionar, I usually put a thickening agent and mousse and then blow dry my hair. Then I add the protective spray and hit the flat iron.
Everyday hair wear will also cause damage... the part of your hair that hangs is already dead, and things like sun and extensive use of blow dryers and irons, causes that part of your hair to dry out, become discoloured and well... looking damaged. However, hydrating shampoos and conditionars, mud packs and oil treatments, PLUS constant up keep, like ridding your hair of split ends, will keep your hair healthier for longer periods of time.
Almond oil is favorite amongst some of the beauticians I know.
And that ends hair care 101 for today... you will be tested.

Alloria, Elix, thank you. I've got some experimenting to do now. I'm not ready to be tested yet.

If my hair solution requires mad scientists, I think I need to start looking at other alternatives...

I got lucky with my hair. If I want it curly, I let it air dry. If I want it straight, I blow-dry it.
On top of that, lately my hair has gotten so long that it weighs out the curls for the most part. It's just mainly wavy.
