The terms 'goth' and 'gothic' are often interchanged with reckless abandon for the definition of the words when used in connection to the gothic subculture.
Goth is a subculture based upon a genre of music and a unique style of dress. The hip-hop, heavy metal, and country genres are no different. "Goth" is an exclusive name applied to people who's taste in clothing and music fit within the subcultures narrow boundaries. Goth has absolutely nothing to do with graveyards, BDSM, etc.
Gothic is an adjective used to describe the plethora of people and things often associated with 'goth'. Most of the people who claim to be goths are not goths at all but are rather gothic. Here's where graveyards and BDSM fit into the picture.
If you would like me to elaborate on something in particular , let me know.

Thank the gods! Someone else who gets it! Yay! I'm a very gothic individual but definitely not a goth.
