No matter what we may be ourselves...we'll pretty much always be classified to the general public as goths. What is your definition of goth, and how...if at all does it affect your life and everyday activities?

ok i guess i will be the 1st to reply to this topic since it has intrigued me and tempted me to do so hehe
what is goth to me .,well its a lifestyle but more so a way of life for many out here who dont fit in the total picture of a vampire ,were or otherkin ,but its is much more its music, clothing ,,attitude and what one feels most at ease with ,so we dress a lil darker then most but not all goths do the black things ive seen goths who dress in many colors of the rainbow so hence back we go to square one its something inside you ,deep inside that comes out when you get dressed ,hear a certain song and are around others like you or by your lonesome oookk ive rammmmbllled long enough ;D so in jest goth is an attitude something we live to express from our deepest depths WEEEEE ;D ps not all goths are depressed suicidal or homocidal ppl for those who like to say things that misrepresent the goths out here and i never label myself anything i got to many doing it for me haha ok thats my take on things sorry for the novel but Grim did ask for points of view =)~ hehe

By dressing 'dark' some people automatically assume you to be 'evil, mean, or the kind of person who goes out of their way to kill a stray animal with their car'. My psychologist was talking to me last week and told me that people would be more reluctant to hire you for a job if you came in dressed in all black, chains, and have black makeup smudged all across you face, they would think of you to be a slacker, who wouldnt do their job, and scare away the customers (based on which job you have). So by dresssing 'gothic' you MAY have a hard life in front of you....based on the ignorant veiws of others.

Goth is a mindframe in which a person finds beauty in darkness.

Goth to me is a trance, where we communicate with ourselves and our inner beauty. We learn not to judje the way we are judjed and see what others pass by. We supernaturalize our lives filled with gloom from understanding the different. They don't understand how we may feel, for they judje us so. Everything depends, and on us, we may be the first to go, because this world demands perfection and being yourself will never be enough.

TEXT goth is society's perspective of the children who do not fit in with all of the pink almost always happy people. to me I am but a person who is gothic influenced and shrouds my life with the color that i feel most frequently. I don't always were black.... I can wear pink and because of my constant expresion of sadness society will still have me known as goth..... I am Cari, so who is this goth that they speak of?

That's just a label the rest of the so called "normal" world slaps upon us. Ofcourse your unique in just being yourself but most are just to dense to even put that together.

Goth in essence embodies what is dark, off the beaten track, left hand path, underground, feared, reviled, yet at the same time alluring, attractive, hauntingly beautiful.

goth is a subgenre of music that branched from the punk scene in the 80s. a goth person would be a person who listens to goth music and is into the goth scene. sadly, most of the "goth" people arent really goth people.
theres a difference between goth and nu metal.

Oh there's a big difference between goth and nu metal alright...lol. I don't even get the nu metal crap...the sound has always been there...maybe just a modern name for the same music?...i think so.

I have no idea, but I think people who dress goth look rather yummy. Always have. I don't care enough about my personal appearance to dress that way myself, though...particularly the makeup...what a hassle. Can you be a goth without dressing the part? <vbg> Certainly I find beauty in darkness. My dream home design contains a bizarre mixture of plenty of natural sunlight with lush greenhouse plantlife, water fountains, and lots of stonework, gargoyles, dragons, and wrought iron.
