Powers Boothe, Rutger Hauer, Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Madsen, Josh _Hartnett, Carla Gugino.
Director: Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, Quentin Tarantino
Writer: Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez
Rating: R
Running Time: 124 minutes
Frank Miller's Sin City comes to life in a way that only Robert Rodriguez can do, with a little help from Quentin Tarantino of course. In Sin City we follow three interconnected stories. Their is the tale of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), an ex-cop with a bad heart who must save a young stripper, Nancy (Jessica Alba), from the same fiendish pedophile,Yellow Bastard (Nick Stahl), whom he rescued her from as a child. Then we meet the near indestructible Marv (Mickey Rourke) who unleashes a brutal search for vengeance upon the city after
falling for a mysterious woman only to find her murdered after their one night stand. Finally their is the tale of Dwight (Clive Owen) who must stop a gang
war when the truce between the gun wielding Hookers who control Old Towne and the cops and mob is broken after the murder of crooked cop, Jackie (Benicio
Del Toro).
Based upon Frank Miller's graphic novels Sin City is as gritty as it is sexy. Filmed mostly in black and white with sudden bursts of color such as when blood is spilled. Their is a considerable amount of blood spilled I might add. In blood and gore this film rivals the Kill Bill movies and is definitely not for the squeamish.
The intriguing central characters are intensified by the leading actors. Bruce Willis and Clive Owen give killer performances and Micky Rourke is the down right awesome as the brute Marv. Jessica Alba is absolutely stunning and fills the screen with her alluring presence as does many of the other lovely actresses in the film like Rosario Dawson and Carla Gugino.
Of course no film like this will be complete without an interesting cast of villains. In this we see sides of Elijah Wood as the feral cannibalistic Kevin and Nick Stahl as Yellow Bastard that we haven't seen before. Famous
villains Powers Boothe as the crooked Senator Rourk and Rutger Hauer as his equally crooked brother, Cardinal Rourk, don't disappoint either nor does Michael
Clarke Duncan as the menacing Manute. We also see Benicio Del Toro giving one of his best performances as the vulgar and brutal Jackie.
What we get is a magnificent work of film art. Interesting stories with great characters played by equally great actors and stunning visuals and great effects. For me it was well worth the price of a ticket.
I give Frank Miller's Sin City a maximum ^^^^^ out of a possible ^^^^^Fangs.
