Who is this gothic that we hear so much about? We are constantly told that we are gothic or we claim ourselves to be gothic but who realy is gothic and what are the guidlines? Are there rules, or is it all just one giant classification for the people that society can't place?? Please if you know comment me back.

Well in my opinion it's all of the above and then some. Yes...most ppl who take one look at us classify us as gothic...or even evil...or satan worshippers. Nuthing against satanism either but the close minded world will slap any label on you that they feel appropiate. Yes...it is a culture...or a society all in itself in todays world. Rules?...Well none that i personally know of but it seems with most that alot of them have their own cliques, stuck up attitude that won't give ya the time of day or their abosolutely polite as possible...differs from each individual in my expierience. For some it is a form of expression...and nuthin else but that...just a way to be different from the crowd and be that unique person they are. Some like the victorian style clothing that seemed to have become the popular fashion in the gothic scene as it is known today. Just like the hip hop ppl have their big baggy jeans...they have the pirate shirts with ruffles and tailcoats and what have you. How is it that it became that way?....your guess is as good as mine...could be just trendy. Others...who are troubled, confused,or just hate life in general also use the "gothic" thing as their way out...or in...once again...i think it depends on the individual. That's where the "all goths are always depressed" label comes from and it's true for some...not for others. I also believe that back in the victorian era is when the word was created. Could of had to do with things that were old...or older. Could of just been another word for a rusted...aged look on a tomestone...or just aged in general...hence why it's the word that describes the ppl you see in the clubs these days. It was'nt just made up out of the blue...it's gotta be in a history book somewhere...and the subculture that is greatly alive today come to accept it as it's own. So in all reality...goth can be about basically anything really....each person has their way of showing themselves to the world...and in turn...the world decides which label you fit under...sad...but true. All i can say is be yourself...even if it means by yourself...the hell with what others think....or call you..or whatever. If some guy wants to wear high heels, make up,...the whole deal...who's to say that's wrong? Now it may not be my cup of tea...but that person should be able to do whatever they wish without being cast out of society...but ofcourse that will never happen. Hope this helps you get a little more understanding about goth and what it's all about. I'm in no way an expert on the subject and i believe no one out there is. It's just another word...that someone out there came up with and it stuck.

I don't think it's that they find us evil as a personal point of view about an individual as much as through the exposure the media has placed on us. That and Black is the color of mourning there fore associated with death. And death is seen as usually the end from evil means.
And it isn't the wearing of black that makes us seem like an enity to beware of , its the accessories we chose to wear with out black attire that scares most.
I believe that a few of us enjoy the shock value that this sort of attire gives them and rather than dressing to impress they dress to shock or scare. It gives them a false sense of power , even for the moment.

To be honest their are more of those kind out in this world then you'd like to believe. You'll always have your good and bad no matter what group or form they come in.
