Greetings everyone,
This message goes out to mostly the Mid-Western kinships, but all members are
welcomed as long as they are willing to travel.
The ShadowLore IN_IL branch has decided to host its first kin camping trip.
And if all goes well, perhaps it will become an annual gathering. This is open
to all kinships and kin-friendlies.
The gathering will be held the first weekend of June, Beginning on Friday June
2 thru Sunday June 4. It will be a 2night trip. We will be meeting at The Brown
County State Park Campsites, located in Nashville Indiana, just 60 miles south
of Indianapolis near Bloomington, Indiana.
Brown County State Park offers a variety of campsite, from primitive to
cabins, electric and non-electric, over 70 miles of bridle trails and 12 miles
of hiking trails, an Olympic size swimming pool, horse and pony rides, fishing,
hunting and boat rentals. Pets are also welcomed as long as the remained
leashed and are only allowed in certain parts of the park. However, for a
minimal fee, there is a doggie park for our furry friends to enjoy.
The primitive/electric sites are located either in heavily wooded areas, semi
wooded, or paved, and you can chose whether or not you would like sun, partial
sun, or full shade.
For site-specific reservations the cost is $16.00 for a non-electric site and
$28.00 for an electric site, with a $7.00 car entrance fee for non-residential
vehicles.
First come first serve reservations are $12.00 to $18.00, but then there would
be no guarantee where we would camp or if we would even be able to camp
together.
There is a $10.00 cancellation fee, and a $5.00 fee should we need to move the
date or change the sites.
Most of the sites allow 1 car per site only, with additional parking elsewhere
for extra vehicles.
Each site is allowed 2 tents. 1 main tent, and 1 small side tent.
With much discussion, we have decided that a shaded campsite, in a wooded
area, with electric capabilities would be the best, for those of us with younger
kids, and those of us that do not like the sun. It would also be best to reserve
sites to insure that we are all in the same area.
We also thought that if everyone brought a little something, this would cut
down on the cost of food and snacks.
A list of commodities needed, will be posted. So please, if you decide to go,
and chose something to bring, DO NOT BACK OUT… unless you died.
I have plenty of camping gear should anyone need to use a tent or sleeping
bag, I also come with a complete outside hotel room J, including chairs, air
mattresses, grill tables, camp fridges, generator if needed, portable DVD
player… and yes, as Litha has asked, the kitchen sink LOL!
I am willing to use the infamous credit card to reserve the sites, I just need
to know how many people are coming, and please NO cancellations.
I have 2 cars, one I can use to carry my camp gear, the other for anyone who
needs a ride. However, there will be a gas fee. I have a VW Beetle, so I will
only have room for 2, maybe 3 if you all really like each other.
I also ask, that if there is anyone who will be attending, and is driving
themselves, to please speak up and offer a ride if you have the room.
It maybe easier, if the schedules are coordinated properly to take the train
and request a pick up from one of our lovely kinships in Indiana. I believe it’s
a $40.00 round trip ticket from Chicago.
I am going to open a database on the IN_IL branch group, and the WI group and
This database will be your RSVP. I ask that all RSVP’s be sent in by May 15,
2006 to insure a reserved spot.
Please no last minute RSVP’s, ie: June 1, you decide you want to go. In this
situation, I advise that you see if one of the already reserved sites have an
available bunk, or call the campsite direct to reserve your spot, or take your
chances with the first come first serve policy at the park.
Sorry to be such a stickler, but I really would like this trip to be a success
and possibly become an annual gathering spot. The more prepared we are the
better time we will have and the less stress those of us that are planning the
trip will have to endure.
I hope to see many of you there, hoping to see some new faces, as well as I am
looking forward to seeing some old.
Take care… and don’t forget to RSVP!!!!!
If you are not able to RSVP via the database on either of thebranch groups, please e-mail me at elix@shadowlore.net
