Hi. (sorry, no imaginative greeting comes to mind...)
I'm a bit confused and I'd really appreciate if you guys helped me. Months ago I had what you could call an "awakening". Something inside me...arose. I just don't know what it is. I' ve been getting a lot of clues, though. There are two things that I bump into a lot: 1. - The number 666 appears before me everywhere I look (license plates, door numbers, restaurant menus, you name it, i've seen it there);
2. - something relating to Immortality and/or Vampires, be it on tv shows, magazines, books, I change the channel, turn the page, and there it is.
I've done some research and I concluded that I'd had my awakening and that my "nature" was that of a Vampire. Cool, I thought. Sign number two stopped "appearing". I've continued my research, though and...now I'm not so sure. you see, I've come to see Vampires as aristocratic, traditionalist, feeding on people's emotions or Psi energy, prefering night over day, and with a tremendous lack of sense of humour. I am not like that. I love the day; the great outdoors; nature; feeling the sun; strict tradition means lack of progress, in a way; I love a good joke, laughing with and at people is sometimes a nice way to interact. I prefer being alone over being in a crowd, alone time is very important to me. The only negative feature is, to quote CSI's Gil Grissom, "I love humanity. It's people I can't stand!" So I re-thought it all, and according to these characteristics and others i've read in other posts here, maybe I'm a Therian.
What do you think?
Thanks for "listening".
N.

First off, while the traits you mentioned are true of many sang vampires, they aren't true of all of them (apart from the obvious things such as being nocturnal). And none of them apply to psy-vamps. But the primary characteristic of a vampire is the need to take blood or energy from others to maintain their health. If that's missing, the person isn't a vampire, period.
A therian is a person who feels they are a non-human animal in mind or spirit. If you don't identify yourself as an animal, you're not a therian. Actually most therians aren't terribly fond of humans. But again, these stereotypes don't hold true for all.
And finally...why do you think you 'are something'? Your description of awakening was rather nebulous. What happened to make you think you are something other than a perfectly normal human?

Q: What happened to make you think you are something other than a perfectly normal human?
A: You're right. Maybe it's just my imagination working overtime. I always felt different. I did go to a...let's call it a witch, for lack of a better term...that told me I had psi potential that could be developed. My mother revealed to me after that, that she knew it since I was a kid (she went to see someone too, but I was to little to recall), and I do keep getting this 666 number of the beast everywhere, like it's a sign, a warning. For what, I do not know. Other signs? "Immortality" and "Vampires". So I added 1+1 and I concluded that maybe I have a Vampiric nature. Ergo, my need to be alone, not belonging, bad omens follow me, contained anger (a lot) and a growing disdain (I was gonna say hatred but it's too strong) for humans. Normal people. The average joe human. Only I read in other posts in this Therian forum that those are the traits of therians, not vampires. I also learned in another forum that vamps love poeple, need them to "feed", be it energy or whatever (I almost was expelled from that forum when I told them my opinion on humans. They got mad!). Does this clarify things? I hope so. Let me know.
Thank you, WingedWolfPsion.

It seems to me that you're simply feeling alienated, and that yes, you're more than a bit confused on what otherkin actually are.
Otherkin are people who feel they are other than human in mind/spirit. This does not mean they hate humans. In fact, in the therian community, excessive going on about 'teh evil HYOOMANS' is a sure way to get laughed off of a forum and then banned.
Vampires are people who need blood or energy from others in order to stay healthy. Therians are people who feel that they're a non-human animal in mind or spirit.
That is ALL. Do some therians dislike the human species? Without a doubt. Is this a defining trait of therianthropy? Not in any way.
Feeling alienated and 'different', and being a loner, doesn't make you otherkin or vampire, or anything at all particularly unusual. Having someone tell you that you're a psychic doesn't make you psychic. Have you ever had any psi abilities manifest?
If you have, then hey...that still puts you in with about 10 to 15% of the population, so it isn't particularly weird either.

not that i know much about any of this but not all humans like humans. and some humans don't even like themself. have you ever been mistreated by people that you thought were friends. are you shy? .... these are things that you need to consider before you start thinking your anything but human. read all you can about therian/were creatures ect. and learn about them. you either are or you aren't but wanting to be one doesn't make you one. i am human. i can want to be just about anything but nomatter how hard i wish it different i am still human. if you are a were?creature then you are one. don't push it or try to force it. be patient with yourself. if you are then in time wou will know.

swampiebartender is right, you can't force yourself to have an 'awakening'. It's something that just comes to you without you inducing it. You can meditate and see if you can find that inner spirit, but you can't force it to come to the surface. So, let it come to you when your inner spirit is ready. It may be a long time, it may be a short time, but all in all, if it wants you to know it's there, it will tell you so.
Also, like others have said before me, do research about every apsect of it. You may find the right information.
Hope it helps and good luck with finding yourself.

it's been along time since i've been here . when i posted the above statement i was a seeker just getting information and haveing a wonderful time of it but since have awakened and have come to know that i am a therian. i awakened very late in the scheme of things. i had all the signs from birth but didn't recognize them . i even had shifts and didn't know what they were. information information informationi can't stress that enough! i don't even go by swampiebartender anymore now i go by swampiewolfess but it's to much hassel trying to change my username. i've run into several that were awakening or seemed to be and have helped them if they wanted help but i always tell them that noone can tell them if they are therian or other/kin it's up to them to find their path. life is a journey no matter what path you find yourself on it's up to you to walk it
