There has been a surge in the entertainment field in the past year and we have seem more and more movies filmed about Werewolves. In fact it looks like the ratio that once was 5 to 1 (Vampire movies to Werewolf movies) is now closer to being even.
How do you feel about the surge in Werewolf films? Do you feel that it's putting pressure on the community to come out into the public? Have you seen a rise in the amount of newly awakened therians entering the community?

I'm still waiting for a few decent werewolf films
When you compare the ratio of bad werewolf films to good werewolf films with the ratio of bad vampire films to good vampire films werewolf moveis defanitly come out badly
hell even compared to bad dragon films even most of the decent werewolf moveis are crappy

The werewolf is always going to be the bad guy, but you think they could come out with at least one or two that would be entertaining at the very least.
Perhaps a few therians should act as consultants on some of these films and maybe the shifting parts were be more fluid.

Mairi No the werewolf isnt always the bad guy look at movies like wolf , the teen wolf movies , and even the deplorable underworld the problem is is that werewolf movies is they almost always have crappy writeing and even crappier special effects It is very rare to see a werewolf movie with a decent looking werewolf Some films do it right or at least do part of it right tho Wolf had the general wolfish attitude down almost perfectly and was probably the best werewolf movie of the 90's Dog Soldiers had a pretty decent werewolf suit and the actual movie was good An American Werewolf in London had the single best transformation scene in a werewolf movie and even tho I didnt like it it was an enjoyable flick A Company of Wolves did away with the upright human like werewolf and instead used real wolves The original Howling had the werewolves as a comunity not a bunch of phychotic monsters (well even tho at least one of them was clinicly psychotic)

Wolf was a very good movie, perhaps one of the best In my limited opinion.
What did you think of the werewolf portion of the newest Harry Potter film?

Personally I like the werewolf movies that have been coming out. Its about time hollywood spread the wealth around insteading of making vampires the # 1 in scarey but yet desirable creatures.
A plot would be nice though, one that made sense and was closer to reality than the far fetched stuff they have come up with so far.

Sage Personaly I doubt thats going to happen The main reasons are due to special effects Making someone look like a vampire is a lot easier then making someone look like a werewolf I mean look at some of the recent big budget monster movies featuring werewolves Van Helsing at least they looked wolf like but they were idioticly done they were just monstersand lacked a tail and it doesnt help that the movie was garbage anyway Underworld was horrible such a promising film that was ruined by bad acting horrid plot and probably the worst CG werewolves I've ever seen I mean for gods sakes they looked like bald cat

So what would you recommend ,if asked by a producer, to make a movie look as realistic as possible? What sort of story line would work and what kind of a plot would be needed.

Mairi Realistic and hollywood dont go well together A lot of realy horrid movies are made just on the simple premise that an actors name will bring people in And a lot of realy promising films are never made because studio high ups think the movies will flop horribly (intresting note Fox came very close to canceling Star Wars more then once during its developement Disney held onto the rights to LotR and actualy declined the script that was used in the blockbuster movies Theaters playing titanic had heroine steam piped into them )

Just because of one scene

for the millions they spend on a one use CG werewolf they could prolly put together a couple of very good animatronics and suits

Brotherhood of the Wolf is an acquired taste and I must confess that some scenes, I did find upsetting, mostly the way animals were portrayed. As mentioned before, I couldn't appreciate the film because I simply couldn't understand the language as well as I used to. I agree that the finances poured into producing near-realistic effects could be re-invested into alternative methods in achieving the desired effects I suppose giving it a more organic perception as opposed to the rather sterile, technical, mnemonics whatever of the computer. In Underworld, I couldn't help noticing that the lycans were scaling the walls and the ceilings, considering how heavy the combination of a wolf and man must be!!!!! It was 'Alienesque'.... Van Helsing-I shall have to watch it again and look out for the lack of tails. What I did notice about the aforementioned films is that the subject was not approached with any modicum of seriousness, there was a caricaturish quality, almost comic book. Have you seen the film Wolfen? I have read the book and I don't know if the translation of the story onto film was that good, it left out a lot, if you have seen it , what did you think of it? Sigrid Wolfen was good for an early 80's flick And yah I cant help but come up with new and horrifying things to hate about underworld and Van Helsing
