Where do you get the spells and rituals that you have in your book of shadows? Do you pick them up from different egroups, from friends, books, sites on the internet or are they handed down from generation to generation?

Some of my spells have been handed down from other members of my family. And other came from friends or I saw it in a book. And then there are a few that I wrote myself.

TEXTMany of the spells are my own, many come from other sources, and many I have adapted to make work with my particular form of magick. They all are different.
I did put away all my books about seven months ago and have not referred to any of them since. I find that the spell / ritual works best if it comes from my will.
After all, isn't it the will the makes all magick work?

Some spells I borrow from others. I usually end up changing them and adapting them to my needs but keep the original so that I can hand it down to others. I am on several egroups for spells. I don't know of anyone else in my family that practices witchcraft so I can't turn to family for them. The bulk of them I make up myself.
To me a witch should be creative!

I did put away all my books about seven months ago and have not referred to any of them since. I find that the spell / ritual works best if it comes from my will. After all, isn't it the will the makes all magick work? Absolutely. I think that, given the proper amount of time and study, all witches and wizards figure this out, even if they have a teacher who is saying otherwise. Cheap spellbooks from Barnes and Noble will get you started, but they are not the be-all and end-all of magic. That's also part of the point behind keeping your Book of Shadows secret, which I blatantly don't do. ^_^v Ideally, spells SHOULDN'T be shared between people unless it's an example for teaching purposes - there's no guarantee what worked for one will work for another. Witches and wizards of old not only knew this (and had the fear that their power would be questioned if one of their spells didn't work for someone else) but also had the foresight to realize that not everyone was responsible enough to be endowed with such magic; hence the "secrecy" of the Book of Shadows. Most of my "hand-me-downs" regard herbal remedies. Any spells or rituals I use at the moment are written by myself.
