Do you see the vampire community coming out more in the public eye than say we were 5 years ago? Or do you feel that we are headed back into the shadows again?

Well that's how I feel too. But sitting here online watching others scurry around, some hell bent on hiding for ever and others wanting to draw any kind of attention to themselves makes me wonder if we have learned anything at all. And where we will be in say 5 years from now.

It seems to me that as soon as we get some positive publicity, some yahoo has to commit murder or mayhem in the guise of being a vampire. This happenened several years ago in Indiana were I live, and people here still associate "vampire" with "murder". Hopefully in the future the postive images will stick around longer and the old cliches and misinformation will die out.

Collectively, I think we are becoming more in the public eye.

OMG that is so sad that happened to that man. I've always thought that we have progressed when it comes to things like that but then reality rears it's ugly head. *sighs*
I feel that more and more is being brought to light to others not in the Community, but the way that it's done (at least to me) seems to make light of what we all are. As if they are "playing up to" or "playing down to" what being a Vampire/Dragon/Elf/Fae really is or means to us all. Espcially to Vampires since you don't tend to see many shows about real life Therians/Dragons/Faeries/Elves etc. People don't want to know about the "Joe Avereage Soccer Mom/Dad" who occasionally drink blood to gain energy. People want the "Lifestylers" who may not even be true Vamps, but they look the part and play the part. People want the SHOCK value and to me that is sad...b/c you will never get the truth out.
*shrugs* I think I went completely off topic...my Apologies.
*hugs* Acacia

I feel that as some of us take steps forward to be seen in a positive light, others are taking advantage of naitivity and making the us look like money grubbing fakes.

It would seem no matter what we do, how we attempt to educate our worse critic is always going to be our own community. And it shouldn't be that way.
We should be behind each other not at each others throats. I still haven't figured out why jealousy plays such a huge role. We are fine with each other as long as we are all on an even scale but should one of us attempt something then we are all over that person for trying.
Its time we grew up.

I think it all comes down to being predators and the possibility of over stepping one's territory. But that is just my opinion. I may not be a vampire, but I've not met more individuals who go from one extreme emotionally to another. I'm not sure if that is just with vampires mind you, but I'm not around many other types of kin on a daily basis like I am with vamps. I mean let's face it LOL y'all are moody!!! but I love you guys anyways I know, I know I have my moddy moments too.... *hugs* Acacia P.

<<< I mean let's face it LOL y'all are moody!!!>>>>
No kidding. It's like we are being fed a steady stream of hormones that never end. Making our reaction time for damned near every incident shoot through the roof. And if we are having a bad day to begin with, I doubt that many of us recognize the real problem before we compound it by going off the handle with something else.
Right now, I am stewing about a problem I am having. I don't know what to do about it. Speaking out has done nothing to alieviate it, in fact it has only made me angrier. So chances are the very next problem, confrontation, or issue to slide down the shoot is going to set me off. And it won't have been that issue that lite the fuse.
Moody?...........some of us are..........but the rest of us usually have our dance cards so full that there is little or no room for calm negoitations.

I think we are becoming more & more into the public eye but I don't think we are ever going to receive a clear understanding from the general public. We are a to splintered & divided group with to many conflicting ideas & agendas being pushed from to many different areas for anyone to have a clear picture of us. We can never seem to get on the same page. I mean we are seemingly incapable of coming to an understanding with each other, how are we to expect anyone else to ever adequately understand us? Will this ever change? Not anytime soon. I honestly believe there are just to many drama queens, egos, & chaos feeders currently out there to bring about adequate change & bring about any positive image of what we are.
